Free Safe-Max Calculator

How much can you safely pay for a vintage camera?

Enter your own sale estimate, costs, and return targets. The calculator works backward to a maximum offer and checks your planned offer against it.

Workbook defaults are prefilled. Replace them with the fees, reserves, and targets that apply to your deal.

Costs and targets

This calculator uses the assumptions you enter. It does not pull live marketplace prices or appraise a camera. Your sale estimate is user-provided, actual fees and costs can differ, and profit is not guaranteed.

Use the number with context

Why the asking price is not your buying ceiling

Start with a defensible sale estimate

Research genuinely comparable sold cameras and adjust for model, condition, included gear, and shipping. The calculator does not supply this number for you.

Count the costs that disappear in the headline price

Inbound shipping, repair reserve, selling fees, outbound shipping, and other selling costs all reduce what remains after a sale.

Let both targets set the ceiling

Safe Max uses whichever limit is stricter: the offer that preserves your minimum dollar profit or the offer that preserves your target ROI.

Treat uncertainty as risk

If condition is unknown, do not quietly assume the best case. Increase the repair reserve, lower the expected sale price, or inspect the camera before deciding.
